FALL 2024
Scenic Design has been once such way that blends my two lifelong loves, architecture and theater, into one. This project was particularly exciting to take on, as the set worked on and designed would be constructed and use in the pre-professional Jerry Herman Theater. The musical chosen, Head Over Heels, is a Shakespearean sounding yet campy adapted retelling of a 1580 play with musical selections from “The Gogo’s” collection of songs. The world this production inhabits is one of fusion, where stylings and foundations from Romanesque styles blends with the vibrancy, geometry, and fluidity of the 1980s. The scenic design attempts to do just this, by keeping roots in the Romanesque world elevated by 1980s lighting design and enhancements. This process was particularly rewarding in my educational journey, as I was able to bring a project from concept to physical construction and creation. It was also my first taste at real world conditions, as financial elements and circumstances led to certain elements being cut for the final iteration - teaching me how to adapt and overcome, a skill that is all too useful in the real world.
